Creating detailed pixel art for hundreds of clothing items is historically challenging because every shirt, dress, and coat typically requires hand-animating dozens of walking, casting, and sitting frames.
To solve this, Chucklefish built a proprietary Clothes Mapping System:
- Garments are mapped directly over the player character's underlying skeletal rig.
- Textures, folds, and highlights dynamically project onto fabric masks across all 8 directional perspectives.
- Up to 11 individual clothing layers can be stacked simultaneously without clipping or awkward visual seams.
